Wichita, KS â LHP J.P. Howell has been promoted to Wichita from High Desert. RHP Thad Markray has been placed on the Temporary Inactive List, retroactive to May 19.
Howell, who is on the Royals' 40-man roster, had accumulated a 3-1 record with a 1.96 ERA in 8 starts with High Desert, striking out 48 and walking 24 in 46.0 innings pitched. His last start was May 16 at Lancaster, where he took a no-decision, giving up 4 runs (3 earned) in 5.0 innings of work.
Howell was a first round draft pick (31st overall) in last June's draft out of the University of Texas. He was a finalist for the Roger Clemens award (top college pitcher) in 2004 and was a two-time All-Big 12 selection. Howell posted a 15-2 record with a 2.13 ERA and 166 strikeouts during his senior season, in which he led the Longhorns to the National Championship game.
Markray was placed on the Temporary Inactive List for personal reasons.
