Frederick Keys News Release

WOODBRIDGE, VA - The Frederick Keys had a variety of opportunities on offense, but could not come through in a 3-2 loss to the Potomac Nationals on Tuesday night at Northwest Federal Field at Pfitzner Stadium. On the game, the Keys stranded 12 on base and finished 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

Frederick (62-70, 27-36) plated the first marker of the game in the initial inning. Randolph Gassaway, Wilson Garcia and Jomar Reyes all singled off Nick Raquet before a fielder's choice by Preston Palmeiro made it a 1-0 contest.

The Nationals (70-59, 33-29) added the next three runs. Nick Banks doubled off Cristian Alvarado to begin the third and scored on a pair of groundouts before the home team tacked on two more in the fourth. With two out and a man at first, Rhett Wiseman hit an RBI double to left and scored one batter later on a Banks single.

In the sixth, the Keys moved within one on two pitches as T.J. Nichting doubled and Daniel Fajardo smacked an RBI single. That closed out the scoring though, as the Keys missed on a variety of opportunities. Frederick left two in scoring position in the first, men at the corners in the fourth as well as the bases loaded in the eighth.

Raquet (4-3) allowed 10 hits but earned the win for the P-Nats delivering 5.2 innings of two-run baseball. He struck out two. Alvarado (11-11) turned in his 17th quality start of the year but suffered the loss, allowing three runs on nine hits in seven innings. In the start, Alvarado set a new career-high for innings pitched (150). Jeremy McKinney worked around a lead-off walk in the ninth to pick up his third save.

Game three of the four-game set is on Wednesday night. Left-hander Alex Wells (7-7, 3.47) starts for Frederick and will be opposed by Potomac right-hander Joan Baez (8-9, 4.02). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m from Northwest Federal Field and the broadcast can be heard on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn radio app starting at 6:45.
