Miscues Cost Suns in Friday Loss to Diamond Jaxx

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Jacksonville Suns (45-53, 12-16) committed three costly errors leading to four unearned runs during a 4-2 Friday night loss to the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx (51-47, 10-18) in front of 1,751 at Pringles Park.

The Suns have lost seven of the last nine games overall, and trail the current series against West Tenn two games to one.

Suns starter James McDonald allowed two unearned runs and three hits over six innings with two walks and three strikeouts, but did not factor in the decision. Reliever Danny Muegge (0-3) picked up the loss, allowing two unearned runs in the seventh inning.

West Tenn starter Travis Chick allowed two earned runs and five hits over five and two-thirds innings without a decision. Reliever Jason Mackintosh (5-4) pitched two scoreless innings for the win. Shawn Kelly (4) pitched a perfect inning and a third to save the game for the Diamond Jaxx.

The Diamond Jaxx took the early lead in the first inning against McDonald. Following a leadoff double from Brent Johnson, Greg Halman walked after staying alive on a dropped pop foul by Suns first baseman Russell Mitchell. After the next two hitters were out, Johan Limonta doubled home both Johnson and Halman for a 2-0 lead.

Jacksonville tied the game against Chick in the second inning. With the bases loaded and two out Shane Justis singled to score both Russell Mitchell and James Tomlin deadlock the score at 2-2.

The game remained tied until the Diamond Jaxx took the lead for good in the seventh inning. Johan Limonta reached on a leadoff single after Suns third baseman Adolfo Gonzalez dropped a pop foul. After a sacrifice bunt, Erick Monzon and Matt Mangini walked to load the bases with one out. Jeff Dominguez hit a deep fly ball to centerfield that was dropped by centerfielder James Tomlin allowing Limonta and Monzon to score for a 4-2 lead.
