Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY - The Montgomery Biscuits (13-13) came back from a 2-0 hole against the Birmingham Barons (15-12) for the second time in as many nights.
David Price made his fifth start for the Biscuits Thursday night and tossed a perfect first inning. Things got a bit rocky for Price, when he allowed the first home run of his professional career to Stefan Gartrell to begin the second inning. Price lasted five frames, but allowed two more solo home runs and left the game trailing by one and in position to take his first loss.
Brandon Allen was responsible for tagging Price with the two remaining long balls in his AA debut with the Barons. The first baseman, recently called up from Winston-Salem, went 2-4 with two bombs.
Big leaguer Esteban Loaiza threw two scoreless innings to start the game for the Barons, despite throwing no faster the 75 mph. Montgomery eventually broke through against regularly scheduled starter, Dewan Day, who followed Loaiza in the third inning.
After back-to-back hits from Gaby Martinez and Chris Nowak in the fourth, Erold Andrus hit a two-run triple that landed under the glove of a diving Gartrell and rolled all the way to the warning track. Andrus' bases clearing triple made the tally 3-2 and plated the first two of five unanswered runs the Biscuits would eventually score.
Still trailing 3-2 in the sixth, Martinez walked to start the inning and then with a full count to Nowak, play was delayed for a second time due to light trouble at Riverwalk Stadium. When the game resumed after approximately 30 minutes, Day was relieved by Fernando Hernandez. Hernandez completed the walk to Nowak, putting two runners on base, both of whom were Day's responsibility.
The rule attributing the runner to Day and not Hernandez, resulted in the loss for Day.
With two on and one out, Andrus drove in his third run of the game with an RBI single, taking Price off the hook. JT Hall followed with the first of his two RBIs on a deep sacrifice fly, giving him the game winner and making the score 4-3. Hall would follow with an RBI single in the eighth to cap off the night.
Eddie Morlan returned unphased after the light delay and tossed his second scoreless frame in the top of the seventh. Biscuits relievers Brian Henderson and Colter Bean each added a scoreless inning of work to seal the game for Montgomery.
Friday night Jeremy Hellickson toes the rubber against another top prospect for the Barons, Aaron Poreda. Riverwalk Stadium plays host to the King as Elvis Night begins at 7:05.
