Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY - Jeremy Hellickson tossed by far his best outing as a Montgomery Biscuit (13-14) but came up on the losing end of a 3-1 pitchers duel against the Birmingham Barons (16-12) and starter Aaron Poreda.

Hellickson lasted a season high seven innings and scattered seven hits, while striking out five and walking one. He allowed three runs on one swing of the bat, by Brandon Allen, who now has three homeruns and four extra base hits in his first two games with the Barons.

All three runs charged to Hellickson were unearned as a Johnny Raburn throwing error, on what should have been the third out, allowed the fourth inning to continue. Allen came to the plate and proceeded to smash a Hellickson offering out of the yard.

Hellickson's battery mate, and former catcher from Vero Beach, Craig Albernaz chipped in with some spectacular defense to hold the Barons to just three runs in his 2008 Biscuits debut. Albernaz caught three men stealing, including an attempt to steal home, picked off a fourth runner and made a rediculous sweep tag on a relay throw from Josh Asanovich to get Eric Hollis sliding home in the fifth.

The combination of Albernaz and Hellickson fell short for the Biscuits as Montgomery scratched across just one run on a solo shot from Rocco Baldelli in the first inning. Barons starter Aaron Poreda held the Biscuits scoreless over his last five innings of work, while striking out three and walking one to pick up his first AA victory.

The combination of Carlos Torres and lights out closer Jon Link, iced the 3-1 win for the Barons, allowing just two baserunners in the final three innings.

Elvis has left the building, but the Biscuits and Barons will try to provide some fireworks to go along with the Max fireworks spectacular in game four on Saturday night. Familiar face Mike Prochaska returns from AAA Durham to join the rotation for the Biscuits. He will face right hander Justin Cassel for the Barons at 7:05 Central time.
