Miscues Catch up to Loons in Finale

MIDLAND, Mich. - The Loons' seven-game win streak was snapped Thursday night after a 9-4 loss to the Lansing Lugnuts,

19-year-old pitcher Robinson Ortiz (L, 0-1) made his single-A debut with the Loons and allowed seven runs on six hits through two innings. Piggyback starter Stephen Kolek entered the game in the third inning and turned in one of his best performances of the season. Kolek threw a season-high six innings and allowed just two runs (one earned) with three strikeouts and no walks.

The Loons briefly held the lead in the first inning when Niko Hulsizer doubled to score Hunter Feduccia. That lead wouldn't last very long, however. Lansing plated four runs in the first inning and three more in the second to make the score 7-1. The Lugnuts added one run in the fourth and one in the sixth as well.

Hulsizer blasted another home run in the eighth inning, his league-leading 12th of the season and his fifth of the series. He also leads the Midwest League in SLG, OPS and total bases.

Fielding miscues once again plagued the Loons, who committed three errors on the night to bring the series total to 15. That's the most errors the team has committed in a series this season.

Despite the series-ending loss to Lansing, the Loons are still 21-5 in their last 26 games and have won seven series in a row. Next up is a four-game series at Dow Diamond against the Fort Wayne Tin Caps. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EDT.
