Cougars Drop Three of Four to Bandits

Geneva, Illinois - The Kane County Cougars (25-212) lost a 6-3, 10-inning decision to the Quad Cities River Bandits (29-14) on Thursday night at Northwestern Medicine Field. With the loss, the Cougars dropped three of four games to the Bandits and find themselves six games back of Quad Cities for first place in the Western Division.

The Cougars used a quick strike to crack the scoreboard in the second inning. With two outs, Geraldo Perdomo singled. Joe Gillette blasted a 1-1 pitch over the left field fence for his third homer of the series, making it 2-0 Cougars.

Quad Cities scored on a pair of loose balls in the fifth inning. With runners at first and third and one out, Michael Wielansky struck out swinging, but the ball bounced away, allowing Trey Dawson to score from third. Later in the inning, Cougar pitcher Jackson Goddard delivered an errant pickoff throw that brought home the tying run.

Neither team scored again until extra innings. Quad Cities finished a homer shy of the cycle in the extra frame. Michael Wielansky had an RBI single. Austin Dennis collected an RBI double. Marty Costes capped the rally with a two-run triple. The Cougars run in extras came on Zack Shannon's RBI ground out to score the automatic runner placed in scoring position in extra innings.

Cougar reliever Chester Pimentel (2-3) suffered the loss, giving up four runs on four hits over 2.1 innings. Humberto Castellanos (3-0) earned the win in two innings of relief. His only run allowed was the unearned run in the tenth inning.
