LYNX VS COMETS - SATURDAY, JULY 12 - 7 PM - TARGET CENTER - BOBFM106 - FSN/NBA TV

The Houston Comets travel to the Target Center this Saturday to take on the Minnesota Lynx in the first of back-to-back matchups between the two teams. Minnesota will travel to Houston Thursday, July 17 to finish off the regular season series. The series currently stands at 1-1, with each team stealing a win on the other's home court. Seimone Augustus will look to have another strong showing against the Comets after putting up a game-high 25 points in the 98-92 Lynx victory back on May 27th. Houston returned the favor at Target Center behind Tina Thompson's 18 points in a 72-65 victory on June 21st. Houston won all three meetings last season, posting double-digit wins in each affair. Augustus led the Lynx in every contest against the Comets last season, netting 20-plus points in each game. The Comets currently hold an edge in the overall series between the two franchises 24-7. Saturday's game marks the end of the Lynx quick two- game home stand, and it can be seen on FSN North and heard on the radio home of the Lynx, BOB FM 106.

Minnesota Lynx Guard Candice Wiggins Named Hanns-G 'Go Beyond' Rookie of the Month for June

The WNBA announced on Wednesday that after leading all rookies with more than 18 points per game, Minnesota Lynx guard Candice Wiggins was named the Hanns-G 'Go Beyond' Rookie of the Month for June. In 11 games, the 5-foot-11 guard averaged 18.6 points, which topped all rookies, 3.4 assists and 2.2 steals per game. She recorded 20 or more points four times and scored in double-digits in each game, including a season and career-high 26 points against the New York Liberty in a 77-76 loss on June 14th. The third overall pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft, Wiggins has lived up to expectations following an All-American career at Stanford University. The Wade Trophy winner in 2008 is currently a leading candidate for the league's Sixth Woman of the Year award. With her all-around play, Wiggins has helped guide the Lynx to a 9-9 record in the competitive Western Conference, including a 5-0 run start to the season. She currently ranks second among rookies and 14th in the league overall in scoring (17.1 ppg), leads the Lynx in assists (3.5 apg) and sits tied for fifth in the league in steals (1.9 spg). In the month of June alone, Wiggins recorded the four highest bench point totals in Lynx franchise history, topped by her 26-point performance on June 14 against the New York Liberty at Madison Square Garden.

Betty Lennox tallied 24 points, including 18 in the second half, to lead the expansion Atlanta Dream to a 73-67 comeback win over the Minnesota Lynx Wednesday night at Target Center. Trailing by as many as 16 points in the third quarter, Atlanta rallied behind Lennox and closed the game on a 13-1 run to burry the Lynx. Minnesota busted out to an early 13-point lead after one, 19-6. Atlanta shot a porous 3-18 (16.7%) from the field in the quarter. Minnesota took their largest lead of the first half when Nicole Ohlde's jumper made it 23-8 with 6:51 remaining. Atlanta closed to within seven at one point before Minnesota pushed its lead back up to 12, 38-26 after two quarters. Seimone Augustus led the way for the Lynx in the first half, tallying 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor. Minnesota stretched its lead out to a game-high 16 points before Atlanta started to climb back thanks in large part to Lennox. The former Lynx' scored 13 points in the quarter and ignited a 15-4 Atlanta run to close out the quarter down only five, 54-49. Atlanta continued their momentum early in the fourth, getting as close as one point, 57-56 on a Lennox free-throw. A Noelle Quinn layup pushed Minnesota's lead back up to 66-60, before Atlanta went on their game-ending run. A Jennifer Lacy free-throw tied things at 66-66 with 1:47 remaining. A Tamara Young lay-up gave the Dream its first lead of the game, one that they would never relinquish. Two Lynx turnovers and two Dream layups later and Atlanta walked out of Target Center with a 73-67 win, its second of its inaugural season. Missed free-throws were the story down the stretch for the Lynx as they went 6-14 in the final frame, including 1-4 the final 1:37 of the game. Minnesota shot just 3-of-15 from the floor in the quarter, and 23-of-63 (36.5%) for the game. Atlanta outscored Minnesota 24-13 in the fourth and 47-29 in the second half. Ivory Latta poured in 11 points for the Dream and Alison Bales contributed eight points and 11 rebounds. Augustus paced the Lynx in scoring, totaling 17 points. Rookies Nicky Anosike and Candice Wiggins added 11 points each. Noelle Quinn dished out a game-high eight assists in the loss. With the loss, Minnesota drops below 500 for the first time this season, falling to 9-10. Minnesota will play host to Houston Saturday night at Target Center.
