Comets to help raise awareness

HOUSTON (July 10, 2008) - The Houston Comets' dance squad Team NRG will perform at Houston's Hip Hop for HIV Awareness concert on Saturday, July 12, 2008.

Radio One Inc., Houston KBXX-FM ‘97.9 THE BOX' in conjunction with The Houston Department of Health and Human Services, Amerigroup Community Care, Aids Foundation of Houston and the Houston Comets collaborated for the Hip Hop for HIV Awareness - Get Serious & Get Tested campaign and concert.

This city wide awareness campaign for HIV education and prevention was the largest single testing event this year in the state with the goal of testing over 2,700 young adults between the ages of 15-35. Free confidential testing and consultation started on National HIV testing day at a series of locations in the greater Houston area. The first 400 people between the ages of 15-35 on Friday, June 27, 2008 received a free ticket to the concert event and a ticket to a Houston Comets game.

Hip Hop for HIV Awareness encourages youth to get serious about knowing their status and to get tested. Each person tested received a ticket to a Houston Comets game in addition one ticket to the concert event featuring national recording hip hop artist Plies, Bun B and Fat Pimp, R&B artist Day 26 from MTV's "Making the Band" season 4 and Mario.
