Augusta, NJ - The Sussex County Miners (18-9) earned their third straight victory over the New York Boulders (12-15) on Sunday afternoon, winning by a score of 12-2. Sussex County got the bats rolling early, putting a four spot up in the bottom of the first. The Miners continued to have quality at bats, stretching their lead out to twelve with an eight run fourth. Sussex County tied a franchise record for most runs in one inning during today's game.
Juan Kelly led the way for the Miners offensively, going 2-5 with four runs batted in. Cito Culver had a nice day at the plate as well, going 2-4 with two runs batted in. The Miners shortstop had some fantastic plays in the field in the later innings of the game as well.
Tyler Alexander had another quality performance on the mound, earning his second victory of the season. The Miners starter pitched seven innings, giving six hits and two earned runs with seven strikeouts. Alexander now has a 2.22 era in five starts in 2021.
Tyler Kovalewich and Baylor Sundahl came out of the bullpen to close the game, providing two scoreless innings for the Miners.
The Miners will open a three-game series with the Washington Wild Things on Tuesday night, with a 7:05 first pitch scheduled in Augusta.
