Miners Blank Freedom 5-0

The Freedom were shut out for the second time this season in a 5-0 loss to Southern Illinois on Sunday night in Marion, Ill. They have matched a season-high with a five game losing streak, falling in the first five games of this road trip, and have dropped a season-high seven straight road games. Florence is winless in seven meetings with the Miners in 2011.

In the first, Eric Suttle hit a one-out single and Sean Coughlin blasted a two-run homer to right to put the Miners on top 2-0.

Coughlin did it again in the fifth. Suttle singled with one out just like he had in the first, and Coughlin crushed his second homer of the game to right field to make it 4-0.

Suttle got in on the action in the seventh inning with a solo homer to increase the lead to 5-0.

Miners starter Shawn Joy (4-3) held the Freedom scoreless on three hits in six innings for the victory. The Freedom matched a season-low with four hits in the game.

Clark (8-3) surrendered four runs on a season-high ten hits in five innings and took the loss. He struck out two. Mike Hanley gave up a run on three innings of relief.

The series finale will be Monday night at 8:05 ET. Alec Lewis (1-4, 4.54) will take the mound for the Freedom. Florence returns home on Tuesday at 7:05 to begin a six-game homestand.
