River City Rascals News Release

Evansville, Ind. The Rascals split a double-header today against the Evansville Otters, falling 4-1 in the first game before taking the series with a 6-0 win in the night cap.

GAME ONE:

Evansville lefty Matt Zielinski won his professional debut, holding the Rascals (47-17) to just four hits in five innings of work with four strikeouts. It was just the third loss since the all-star break for River City.

The Rascals took a 1-0 lead in the second innings on a two-out single from Danny Sawyer after Joash Brodin doubled to start the inning. The Otters (24-41) tied it with a two-out triple in the fourth and took a 2-1 lead on a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

Zach Robertson pitched all six innings for River City, giving up a controversial two-run homerun in the bottom of his final inning. The batter, Steve Caseras, was walking back to the plate after hitting a long foul ball that was ruled fair by homeplate umpire Bill Lopina.

GAME TWO:

Rascals pitchers combined for a shutout of Evansville in game two, with Don Lisi picking up his fourth win while Stephen Holdren went deep twice, putting him at 18 for the season, one shy of tying the Rascals single-season record held by three players.

River City (48-17) scored four runs on four hits in the second and added three more in the third on four hits, including a Joash Brodin double and Bobby Burk two-run single to make it 5-0.

Holdren would add two tape measure shots to right in successive at bats stretching the Rascals lead to the final score of 7-0. Holdren's 17th and 18th this season puts him one back of the franchise record and three shy of 100.

After an off day on Monday, the Rascals begin a six-game homestand Tuesday as the top two teams from the East Division come to town.
