
Evansville splits doubleheader against River City

(EVANSVILLE, Indiana) - The Evansville Otters won the first game of the doubleheader 4-1 on Sunday against the River City Rascals but lost the final game 7-0 at Historic Bosse Field.
Starter Matt Zielinski (1-0) made his professional debut giving up one run in the opener. The lefty was victorious in his first professional start.
The Evansville Otters came back from a 1-0 deficit to tie the game on an RBI triple from outfielder Jose Hernandez. Catcher Bryson Rahier followed in the 5th inning with a sacrifice fly, the first pro run batted in of his career.
First baseman Steve Caseres added a two-run homer late as reliever Patrick Crider and closer Eric Massingham (15th save) combined to close out the 4-1 victory.
The River City Rascals then looked for a split of the day. They scored two runs in the second and three more in the third on the way to the win.
Evansville starting pitcher Kyle Barry (2-5) took the loss in the second game. The right-hander allowed six runs over five innings.
Outfielder Stephen Holdren hit two solo home runs in the victory as the Rascals are now 48-17. The Otters are currently 24-42.
Both teams will have off on Monday as Evansville begins a week-long road trip on Tuesday. The Otters begin by playing three games at the Washington Wild Things and then another three-game weekend set at the Lake Eric Crushers. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. CDT at Consol Energy Park.
