Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
The third out of the inning proved to be elusive and the longball was not kind to Adam Mills and the Pawtucket Red Sox in a 5-2 loss to Lehigh Valley Thursday night.
Mills, Pawtucket's starting pitcher, surrendered a pair of two-run homeruns to doom the PawSox in front of 6,311 fans at McCoy Stadium. Andy Tracy connected on a first inning homerun with Ozzie Chavez on first, and in the sixth Neil Sellers went deep with John Mayberry on base to take control of the game.
A Cody Ransom double in the eighth inning drove home Andy Tracy for the fifth run on the ballgame for the Iron Pigs. All five of the Lehigh Valley runs in the ballgame came with two outs.
Mills pitched six innings, giving up four runs on seven hits. He struck out two Iron Pigs and walked none. In the loss, Mills record falls to 2-9 on the season. The first run of the ballgame for Pawtucket was scored in the second inning by Yamaico Navarro. Navarro singled to left field and stole second base to set up Jeremy Hermida's RBI base hit.
Jack Hannahan's leadoff homerun in the eighth inning was his fourth of the season and capped the PawSox scoring for the night. Prior to the Hannahan's home run, Hermida had knocked in all four of Pawtucket's runs in the team's previous three games.
Trailing 4-1, Pawtucket loaded the bases in the seventh inning and brought Josh Reddick to the plate as the potential go-ahead run. The comeback attempt was foiled by Iron Pigs' reliever Michael Schwimmer however, who struck out Reddick to end the threat.
Santo Luis came on in relief of Mills for his ninth appearance of the season. Luis tossed two innings of relief, allowing one run, and in doing so ended his personal shutout streak at seven innings. Fernando Cabrera pitched a scoreless ninth inning for Pawtucket.
Pawtucket will battle Lehigh Valley in the conclusion of a three-game series Friday. Taking the mound for Pawtucket will be Rich Hill (2-0, 2.87 ERA) and he will battle the Iron Pigs' Brian Mazone (6-12, 3.71 ERA).
