Charlotte Knights News Release

FORT MILL, S.C. - The Charlotte Knights ended a five game losing streak with a walk-off 4-3 win over the Gwinnett Braves. The Knights scored two runs in the bottom of the 9th inning which included the game winning run on a bases loaded walk.

The Braves scored first in the game putting up three runs in the 5th inning on a home run from Matt Young. It looked like it would be enough to hold off the Knights as their offense couldn't do much against Gwinnett starting pitcher Brandon Beachy, who struck out six in 6.0 innings of work.

The Knights put up a run in the 6th inning on an RBI double from Buck Coats. Charlotte followed it up with a run in the 7th when Jordan Danks scored on a Donny Lucy groundout. The Knights bullpen kept the team in the game as four relievers combined to pitch the final 4.0 innings allowing no runs off three hits.

Gwinnett sent closer Craig Kimbrell on to finish things off but he couldn't get the job done. With two outs and runners on first and second Rob Hudson struck out, but reached base on a dropped third strike. Kimbrell then walked Alejandro De Aza to tie the game. Buck Coats then worked a game winning bases load walk in a 10 pitch at bat to give the Knights the win.

The Knights and Braves continue their series tomorrow at 7:15 PM. The Braves will start LHP Scott Diamond (2-0, 2.56 ERA) and the Knights will counter with RHP Lucas Harrell (10-10, 4.75 ERA).
