MidAmerican Energy Partners with Iowa Wolves & YMCA of Greater Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa Wolves, the NBA G League franchise of the Minnesota Timberwolves, and the YMCA of Greater Des Moines today announced MidAmerican Energy is the new presenting sponsor of the Iowa Wolves Metro League.

The Iowa Wolves Metro League powered by MidAmerican Energy was started last year. The league is open to high school students (grades 9-12) in the Des Moines metro and surrounding suburbs who are not part of their high school basketball programs.

"Supporting the youth in our communities is a key to our CARES community outreach program," said Kathryn Kunert, Vice President Economic Connections and Integration, MidAmerican Energy. "By providing affordable sports opportunities for young people in partnership with the Wolves we are living up to our commitment to care for our communities. MidAmerican looks forward to the continued growth and success of the Iowa Wolves Metro League. We wish all the teams and participants good luck for the coming season."

Participants will be assigned to teams in either the Freshman/Sophomore or Junior/Senior division and compete against other teams in their division in an eight-week season, with league playoffs held during the ninth week.

"We're thrilled to give back to our community with the YMCA and the MidAmerican Energy CARES community outreach program to support the growth of the game for all ages, especially where's there's been a void in its continuation," said Ryan Grant, Iowa Wolves President. "Basketball is not only a healthy activity, but a terrific way to develop team-building skills that provide benefits throughout life."

Thanks to financial support from the Wolves and MidAmerican Energy, the cost to participate in the Metro League is again just $15 per player, which includes a game jersey. Registration opens today (Thursday, Nov. 17) with play beginning the week of Dec. 5. For more information and to register, visit here.
