CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Charge (5-1) defeated the Iowa Wolves (2-3), 119-108, at the Wolstein Center on Thursday night.
Sharife Cooper continued his strong play to start the season by tying a couple Charge franchise records, matching the mark for points in a quarter (23) and points in a half (31). Cooper finished with 40 points on 15-of-20 from the field and 8-of-10 from three-point range in 40 minutes. In his Charge debut, Two-Way Player Mamadi Diakite scored 23 points on 8-of-13 from the field with seven rebounds and a pair of steals in 38 minutes. Isaiah Mobley scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds in 33 minutes.
Trailing 57-52 at the half, the Charge came out firing by hitting 12-of-20 shots from the field (60%) & hitting their high percentage opportunities to score 20 of their 30 points in the paint during the third. Down 69-62, Cleveland rolled off a 16-3 run to begin taking control of the game. The two teams went back-and forth before a Chandler Vaudrin cutting layup at the end of the quarter gave Cleveland the lead for good.
The Wolves were paced by 21 points, and six rebounds from Minnesota assignment Luka Garza. Josh Minott posted a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds in 39 minutes for Iowa. Emmanuel Mudiay added 20 points and five steals in 40 minutes. The Wolves turned the ball over 17 times for 30 points in the game while forcing 21 Charge turnovers resulting in 23 points.
