Jenkins' nomination came as a result of his charity work in and around Toronto. ROOM 27 is a community initiative, created by Michael Jenkins. Throughout the Argonauts' 2003 season, ROOM 27 has Michael teaming up with reBOOT Canada to give underprivileged youth the best chance to succeed academically and in life. About the Tom Pate Award
Tom Pate was a former CFL player with the Hamilton Tiger Cats in the 70's. He was much more than just a player. Tom had a unique combination of outstanding sportsmanship and dedication to his team, the league and the community.
Sadly, both his career and life were short-lived. In October 1975, at the age of 23, in a home game against Calgary, he suffered a brain aneurysm in the fourth quarter and died two days later.
In honour of his memory, the Canadian Football League Players' Association, as voted by the players, nominate one individual from each team that embodies the same qualities as Tom Pate; outstanding contributions to his team, his community and his sport.
The Winner of the Tom Pate Award will be announced with all other award winners at the Rogers AT&T CFL Player Awards on Friday, November 14, 2003.
