Mets Sign RHP Miguel Batista, Assign to Bisons Roster

The New York Mets today announced the team has signed RHP MIGUEL BATISTA to a minor league contract and assigned him to the Bisons. Batista is active for the Herd's contest in Syracuse tonight.

The Bisons also announced that RHP JOHN LUJAN has been transferred to Double-A Binghamton and C DUSTY RYAN was activated off the team's disabled list and transferred to Binghamton.

Batista, 40, was released by the St. Louis Cardinals on June 22. He was 3-2 with a 4.60ERA (29.1IP, 15ER) in 26 games, one start for St. Louis this year.

He went 1-2 with two saves and a 3.70ERA (82.2IP, 34ER) in 58 games with the Washington Nationals last year.

Overall, the 6-1, 210-pounder is 99-112 with 41 saves and a 4.51ERA in 614 major league games, 239 starts with the Pirates, Marlins, Cubs, Expos, Royals, Diamondbacks, Blue Jays, Mariners, Nationals and Cardinals. He won 10 or more games in five different seasons, including an 11-8 record and a 3.36ERA in 48 games for the 2001 World Series Champion Arizona Diamondbacks.

Lujan was 1-2 with a 1.96ERA and one save in 19 games with the Bisons. Ryan has missed 75 games this season after being placed on the disabled list on April 19 with a right knee meniscus tear. He played three games with Buffalo this season (2-12, double).
