Mets Outlast Tortugas 6-5 in 13 Innings
May 31, 2017 - Florida State League (FSL1) - St. Lucie Mets News Release
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Patrick Mazeika hit a walk-off single into center field to propel the St. Lucie Mets to a 6-5 victory over the Daytona Tortugas in 13 innings on Wednesday at First Data Field.
John Mora, celebrating his 24th birthday, started the winning rally with a leadoff single. He scored the winning run on Mazeika's one-out base knock against lefty reliever Juan Martinez.
Mora reached base four times (one hit, two walks, one error) and scored each time he made it on base.
Three Mets relievers pitched terrific in extra innings. Tyler Bashlor faced six batters and struck out five of them. Josh Torres logged 2.1 scoreless innings and fanned four hitters. Kevin Canelon struck out the side in the top of the 13th and was credited with the win.
The Mets trailed 5-3 with two outs and the bases empty in the eighth inning. Mora made it to second base on fielding errors by first baseman Gavin LaValley and right fielder Daniel Sweet.
J.C. Rodriguez followed with a RBI single to make it 5-4. Jhoan Urena then drilled a double to bring in Rodriguez and tie the game 5-5.
The Mets entered the eighth inning up 3-2, but Johnny Magliozzi walked three batters in the inning and surrendered a three-run double to Chadwick Tromp that put Daytona ahead 5-3.
Mets starter Nabil Crismatt was steller again in a no-decision. He struck out seven in seven innings. The two runs he allowed came on solo homers from LaValley and Shed Long. The Mets vehemently argued that LaValley's long ball was foul.
The Mets (27-26) and Tortugas (27-25) play again on Thursday at First Data Field. First pitch is 6:30 p.m. Fans can enjoy $1 cans of Budweiser and Bud Light, $1 hot dogs, $1 soda and $1 popcorn. ment.8
