Long Names FSL Player of the Week

May 31, 2017 - Florida State League (FSL1) - Daytona Tortugas News Release

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL - Shed Long has been named the Florida State League Offensive Player of the Week for the week of May 22th-May 28th, the league announced Tuesday evening. Long went 9-for-23 (.391) in six games during that time, with three home runs and five RBIs. The infielder also drew three walks and enjoyed the first multi-homer game of his career Saturday night against the Tampa Yankees at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

It's the first such honor for a Tortuga in 2017, after Daytona players won weekly award's eight total times last season. It's the second time Long has been named FSL Player of the Week, after doing so the first week of August, 2016. He's the first Tortuga to be named FSL Player of the Week since Gavin LaValley was honored for his performance in the final week of the 2016 season.

Genesis Cabrera, of Charlotte, won the FSL Pitcher of the Week award.

Daytona continues their series Wednesday in St. Lucie at First Data Field. RHP Wendolyn Bautista (1-0, 2.38 ERA) will get the ball for Daytona against RHP Nabil Crismatt (3-4, 3.12 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM, with coverage beginning with The Metcare Pregame Show at 6:20 PM on AM 1230 and AM 1490 WSBB.
