Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
BRADENTON, Fla. - The Fort Myers Miracle (25-28) were shut out by the Bradenton Marauders (31-22) on Wednesday night in a 1-0 loss at LECOM Park. LHP Lewis Thorpe (L, 0-2) recorded season bests with seven strikeouts over five innings in his third start of the year.
RHP Pedro Vasquez (W, 5-3) allowed just two hits over seven frames for Bradenton. The two hits were a season low for Fort Myers. LHP Jake Brentz and LHP Daniel Zamora (Sv, 4) held the Miracle scoreless in the eighth and ninth.
The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the fourth against Thorpe. After a leadoff walk to Cole Tucker, a Thorpe throwing error on a pickoff throw allowed the Marauders' shortstop to advance to second base. Ke'Bryan Hayes then slapped a single down the right field line which brought in the game's only tally.
The Miracle's best chance late came in the eighth. After Trey Vavra was hit with a two-out pitch, Alex Perez sliced a ball to left-center where Casey Hughston made an incredible diving effort for the ball. The umpires did not make an official signal for several seconds before Perez was ruled out to end the inning.
LHP Sam Clay and RHP Nick Anderson aided with three scoreless innings for Fort Myers to keep the game close. Clay struck out three over his two stanzas.
The two teams play game three of the series on Thursday night at 6:30 PM ET with RHP Brady Anderson dueling against RHP Bret Helton.
