T-Yanks Take Opener over Stone Crabs, 6-1

TAMPA, Fla. -The Tampa Yankees (27-25) started an eight-game home stand with a 6-1 victory over the Charlotte Stone Crabs (23-26) on Tuesday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field. Zack Littell (W, 6-1) logged his third-straight start of at least seven innings of work. The right-hander tied his season-high with eight strikeouts while holding the Stone Crabs to one earned run on five hits and two walks over seven frames, throwing 71 of 102 pitches for strikes. Jorge Mateo and Kyle Holder each singled to open the bottom of the first. A pair of wild pitches by Charlotte starter Genesis Cabrera allowed Mateo to cross the plate. Littell's lone blemish happened in the fourth when Brandon Lowe slugged a towering solo home run, knotting the game at 1-1. It was Lowe's seventh homer and his fourth in his last six games. Chris Gittens opened the bottom of the fourth with a single into left, snapping a streak of eight-straight batters retired by Cabrera. Trey Amburgey followed with a two run home run over the wall in right-centerfield, giving the Yankees a 3-1 lead. Cabrera (L, 3-5) retired the final eight batters he faced in a quality start. The southpaw allowed three earned runs on four hits in six innings, walking two while striking out seven and throwing 62 of 95 pitches for strikes. The Yankees doubled their run total in the eighth against RHP Noel Rodriguez. Gittens and Amburgey drew a pair of two-out walks and scored on a two-run triple by Nick Solak . A wild pitch by Rodriguez allowed Solak to score the final Tampa run. LHP James Reeves (SV, 1) worked around a single and a walk while striking out a pair in two scoreless relief innings, earning his first save of the season for the T-Yanks. Amburgey (1-for-3, HR, BB, 2RBI, 2R) clubbed his fifth home run. Solak (1-for-4, 3B, 2RBI, R) legged out his second triple. Gittens (1-for-2, 2BB, 2R) has reached base safely in16 of his last 17 games. The series continues on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. with RHP Albert Abreu (0-2, 4.50 ERA) squares off against LHP Travis Ott (0-0, 4.15 ERA).
