Mets Clobber Miracle, 10-4, at Tradition Field

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (May 31, 2015) - The St. Lucie Mets trounced the Fort Myers Miracle, 10-4, at Tradition Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Mets pounded out 10 runs in the first three innings against Miracle starter Aaron Slegers. In the fist, St. Lucie sent 10 hitters to the plate and scored four runs on four hits including an RBI double from Matt Oberste and two-run single by Dominic Smith.

After the Miracle got a run in the top of the second on a Marcus Knecht RBI double, Mets posted four more runs in the bottom of the frame. Oberste knocked in a run with his second RBI double of the game and Ahmed Rosario drilled a two-run triple. Stefan Sabol capped off the scoring the second with a run-scoring double down the third base line, 8-1.

St. Lucie added two runs in the third on a two-run double from Smith, 10-1. Slegers (3-3) ended his afternoon after just three innings and giving up 10 runs, eight earned, on 12 hits with two strikeouts.

Mets starter Miller Diaz gave up just three hits to the Miracle offense, but walked five and allowed four runs. In the fourth, the Miracle scored without the benefit of a hit. Chad Christensen coaxed a walk and then advanced to second base on a passed ball. Niko Goodrum then grounded out to second base to push Christensen to third. Bryan Haar then knocked in a run with an RBI grounder to second.

Fort Myers scored two runs in the seventh. Goodrum doubled down the first base line to start the inning and came home on a two-bagger from Haar. After a walk and a wild pitch from Diaz put runners on the corners, Mitch Garver tallied an RBI on a sacrifice fly to left, 10-4.

Kyle Regnault entered in the seventh for Diaz (3-3) the Mets and retired the last two hitters. Regnault would go 2.1 innings before loading the bases with two outs in the ninth. Mets reliever Akeel Morris retired the final man on two pitches to close out the victory.

After Slegers, the Miracle bullpen ran out three arms that combined for five scoreless innings. Luke Westphal tossed three frames with two walks and strikeout. Matt Summers had a perfect inning and Dallas Gallant registered a scoreless eighth.

The Miracle (24-26) will try to avoid the sweep and wrap up a seven-game road trip at Tradition Field in a 6:30 p.m. start with the Mets (25-25) on Monday.
