Palm Beach Capitalizes on Charlotte's Errors

JUPITER, Fla. - In the first game of the third series against the Charlotte Stone Crabs, the Palm Beach Cardinals (24-25) defeated the Stone Crabs for the first time this year by a score of 9 - 7. It was the highest scoring game for the Cardinals this season, and the second most amount of hits (14). The first reliever of the game, Cody Schumacher, earned the win for Palm Beach, improving his record to 2 - 0. Kevin Herget earned his first save of the year.

In a game of back and forth, each Cardinal reached base and four had multi-hit games. Casey Turgeon, who was promoted to Palm Beach on May 29, went 3 - 4 with a walk and two RBI. C.J. McElroy Jr. was another Cardinal who collected three hits and two RBI in tonight's win. The Stone Crabs outhit Palm Beach 15 - 14, and

Palm Beach got to work early as they scored their first two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The first three batters in the lineup all produced hits, including two singles and a double. Turgeon scored Palm Beach's next run in the third inning after a throwing error by Charlotte's catcher, Armando Araiza.

At the end of the fourth inning, the game was tied at four after Charlotte scored four runs on eight hits in the third and fourth inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Jimmy Bosco scored on McElroy's first RBI of the game with a single to center field. After tying the game in the fourth, Palm Beach took command of the game the very next inning by scoring four runs on three hits with the help of three errors.

In the fifth, the Cardinals batted through the order, which was led off by cleanup man, Luke Voit. He grounded out to the second baseman, followed by Collin Radack reaching on an error by Charlotte's shortstop. After the error, Brett Wiley collected his second hit of the game, followed by Juan Herrera reaching base on another error committed by shortstop, Willy Adames.

Bosco induced a sacrifice fly to deep center field, giving Radack enough time to score, and making it two outs in the inning. A single by Robelys Reyes scored run number six, followed by run number seven being scored on Charlotte's third error of the inning. Turgeon stepped to the plate for the fourth time this game, and collected his third hit with a single to left field to score the final run of the inning.

Palm Beach extended their lead in the seventh, after Reyes walked, stole second base, reached third on an error and scored on McElroy's final hit of the game. After being down by five, Charlotte put up a rally in the top of the ninth, but was cut short after scoring three runs on four hits. Tyler Melling entered the game to shut down Charlotte, but the Stone Crabs got the best of him hitting three doubles and a single, allowing him to only record one out. Herget came to the mound to throw just four pitches, inducing a ground out and a three pitch strikeout to end the game.
