Palm Beach Cardinals News Release

JUPITER, Fla. - The Palm Beach Cardinals (24 - 26) were defeated by the Charlotte Stone Crabs, by a score of 2 - 0. It was a scoreless game until the 8th inning after the Stone Crabs loaded the bases with no outs. Charlotte now holds a 7 - 1 season record over the Cardinals.

It was a completely different game than game one of this series, with the two teams combining for 12 hits and the two runs. Charlotte shortstop, Willy Adames, committed just one error in today's game, a wild throw on a routine groundout. The batter, Robelys Reyes, hustled down the line and ended up on third once Charlotte got control of the ball. Reyes was stranded on third to end the inning.

The starter for Palm Beach, Rob Kaminsky (1 - 1) threw six solid innings, allowing just four hits. In the top of the second inning, he found himself in a bases loaded jam with one of Charlotte's top hitters at the plate. Kaminsky was able to strikeout Jake Bauers to end the inning, leaving the bases loaded for the Stone Crabs.

In Kaminsky's ninth start this season, he pitched in quality start fashion, his fifth on the year. It was his third time he didn't allow an earned run while on the mound and fifth start to strike out five. For Charlotte, starter Chris Kirsch earned the win, improving his record to 4 - 2.

After six scoreless innings, Kevin Herget came to the mound to replace Kaminsky and allowed one hit in the seventh. The runner ended the inning on second after a wild pitch, but Herget escaped the inning with a strikeout and groundout. In the eight, Herget gave up two back-to-back singles followed by a walk to load the bags for the Stone Crabs. Manager Oliver Marmol called to the bullpen for a second time, sending Chris Perry into the game.

Perry induced a groundout to his first batter, but with that out, a run scored and kept two runners in scoring position. Perry ended the inning with two fly outs, limiting the damage to just the one run. In the top of the ninth, Perry found himself in a similar situation after walking three batters and giving up a double. Just like the eighth, Charlotte was only able to score one.

In Palm Beach's last chance to tie the game, the Stone Crabs called for Brad Schreiber to go for his 12th save of the season.

Schreiber retired the Cardinals in order, and ended the game with a strikeout.

The series finale against the Stone Crabs will be June 1, with the first pitch slated for 6:35 p.m. To purchase tickets, please call (561) 630-1828 or visit RogerDeanStadium.com.
