St. Lucie Mets News Release
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (May 31, 2015) - The St. Lucie Mets got off to an explosive start in a 10-4 thrashing of the Fort Myers Miracle on Sunday afternoon at Tradition Field.
The Mets shelled Miracle starter Aaron Sleger for 10 runs, eight earned, and 12 hits over the first three innings to take a commanding 10-1 lead. Slegers was coming off a complete game shutout in his last start against Brevard County.
The Mets scored four in the first, added four more in the second and completed their offensive outburst in the third with a two-run double by Dominic Smith.
Smith, who hit a walk-off two-run homer in the 11th inning on Saturday, went 3-5 with the double and four RBIs on Sunday. His two-run single in the first extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
Matt Oberste got the scoring started with an RBI double in the first. He added another RBI double in the second and ended up 4 for 5 with three runs scored and two runs driven in.
Oberste has four doubles and a home run in the three games since Michael Conforto was promoted to Double-A Binghamton.
All nine players in the Mets lineup had a hit, including Tucker Tharp and Alfredo Reyes in their St. Lucie Mets debuts. Both Tharp and Reyes were added to the roster on Friday despite never playing a game above short-season Brooklyn.
Amed Rosario went 2 for 5 with a two-run triple in the second inning. Rosario now has 18 multi-hit games, the second most on the team.
Mets starter Miller Daiz earned his second straight win despite struggling with his command. He only allowed one hit in the first six innings but he ended up walking five, plunking two and throwing two wild pitches in 6.1 innings. He was charged with three earned runs.
Kyle Regnault did not allow a run in 2.1 innings but he struggled with his command too, walking two, hitting one and throwing two wild pitches. Akeel Morris had to come in to get the last out in the ninth with the bases loaded.
The Miracle had a season-low four hits. The 10 runs they gave up were a season high.
The Mets improved to 25-25 with their third straight win. It's the first time since May 5 they have been at .500. They are now alone in second place in the FSL South Division, but they still remain eight games behind first-place Charlotte.
The Mets will go for the series sweep on the Miracle on Monday. The Mets have not swept an opponent this season. They'll also be looking to match their season-high four-game winning streak.
Monday's game begins at 6:30 p.m. All kids 12-and-under get in for free.
