Bradenton, FL - The Marauders (23-27) fell 2-1 to the Jupiter Hammerheads (24-26) on Sunday afternoon at McKechnie Field. Jupiter righty CJ Robinson struck out SS JaCoby Jones with the bases loaded in the ninth inning to end the game.
Most of the game passed by as a scoreless duel between starters LHP Jayson Aquino (L, 2-5) and Scott Lyman (W, 7-1).The Hammerheads opened the scoring in the sixth inning when Austin Dean crushed a one-out solo home run, his third of the season. Aquino struck out three and surrendered five hits over six innings. Lyman tossed seven scoreless and struck out three.
Trailing 2-0 in the ninth, RF Harold Ramirez singled home DH Jin-De Jhang with nobody out and advanced to second on the throw home. C Reese McGuire bunted Ramirez to third, but after Jupiter reliever Tyler Bremer walked LF Justin Maffei and CF Michael Fransoso, Robinson entered and closed out the game.
NOTES: The game began at 1:02 p.m. under cloudy skies, 86 degrees, and wind blowing 6 mph out to left field ... The game featured a 56 minute delay in the top of the eighth inning ... The Marauders had a cumulative average with runners in scoring position above .300 for the entire month until today's game, finishing at .296 for May ...
