
Merth Joins Penguins on PTO

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed defenseman Peter Merth to a professional tryout agreement (PTO).
Merth recorded a goal, 16 assists and 75 penalty minutes in 48 games with the Wheeling Nailers this year. The 25-year old also saw AHL action during the 2012-13 season, signing a PTO with the Hamilton Bulldogs on Mar. 15 and posting an assist in seven appearances.
Now a third-year pro, Merth played in 11 contests for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last season, contributing two assists and 22 minutes of penalties. He also posted 12 points, (3G-9A), 54 PIM and a team-leading +20 plus/minus rating in 50 games for the Nailers. Over three seasons with Wheeling, Merth has totaled five goals and 36 assists in 167 games. He also appeared in 17 postseason matches for Wheeling.
Originally from New Westminster, British Columbia, Merth was a four-year letterman at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
