Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons announced on Tuesday that defenseman David Savard has been recalled from the club on an emergency basis by its NHL affiliate, the Columbus Blue Jackets. Additionally, the Falcons announced that they have released defenseman Thomas Larkin from his amateur try-out agreement (ATO).
Savard, a third-year pro, is second among Springfield defensemen with 31 points (5g-26a) in 60 games and is scoreless in three outings with Columbus this season. In 176-career appearances with the Falcons, Savard has accumulated 96 points (20g-76a). His 76 assists with the Falcons place him 10th in team history. A native of St. Hyacinthe, Quebec, Savard has registered 10 points (2g-8a) in 34-career NHL games. The 22-year-old was selected by Columbus in the fourth round (94th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Larkin, signed by Springfield to an ATO on Mar. 14, scored one goal over seven contests with the club.
Springfield closes out its regular-season schedule with road games this week against Worcester on Wednesday, Providence on Friday, and Adirondack on Saturday.
The Falcons announced dates and times of their first two home games of the 2013 Calder Cup Playoffs on Monday. Springfield will host the first two contests of the best-of-five Eastern Conference Quarterfinals at the MassMutual Center. Game 1 will be played on Saturday, Apr. 27 at 7 p.m., with Game 2 following on Sunday, Apr. 28 at 4 p.m. The Falcons would also host Game 5, if necessary.
The remainder of Springfield's first-round schedule will be announced on FalconsAHL.com once the club's opponent is determined. The AHL's regular season ends this Sunday. The Falcons, as division winners, will have one of the Eastern Conference's top three seeds.
