Manning and Konan Called to Flyers

April 16, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Adirondack Phantoms News Release

The Philadelphia Flyers have recalled defensemen Matt Konan and Brandon Manning from the Adirondack Phantoms, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.

Konan has been assigned #34, while Manning will wear #32. Both are available to play in tonight's Flyers-Rangers game at the Wells Fargo Center. For Konan, if he is in the line-up, it will be his NHL debut.

The 21-year-old Matt Konan is in his first season of professional hockey, appearing in 42 games with Adirondack where he has two goals and four assists for six points. He also appeared in five games with the club's ECHL affiliate, the Trenton Titans this season.

The Flyers signed the Tustin, Cal. native Konan to an entry-level contract on Apr. 2, 2012 after five seasons with the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League.

Brandon Manning earns his second recall with the Flyers in his career and first this season. He has 21 points (6g-15a) in 65 games with the Phantoms this season, his second with the club. Earlier this season, he represented the Adirondack Phantoms at the AHL All-Star Classic in Providence.

The 22-year old Manning appeared in four games with the Flyers last season, going scoreless and averaging 13:43 of ice time.

The recalls comes on the heels of defenseman Kent Huskins leaving last night's Flyers-Canadiens game after suffering a concussion and the announcement that defenseman Bruno Gervais is out indefinitely with upcoming surgery on a torn stomach muscle.

The Adirondack Phantoms have three games left in the regular season including two at home. Adirondack hosts the Hershey Bears on Friday night and then takes on the Springfield Falcons on Saturday night in the last home game of the season. Saturday is Scoville Gemstone Giveaway Night for the first 500 fans including a grand-prize package over $1,000 in value. Saturday's game also features Super-Fan Cameron Hughes presented by Tackett Chiropractic. Call the Phantoms for more information at 518-480-3355.
