Memphis 901 FC News Release
MEMPHIS, Tennessee - Memphis 901 FC begins a four-match road trip at Birmingham Legion FC tomorrow night at 7:00.
901 FC is coming off a heartbreaking loss against North Carolina FC last Saturday night, in which the club led 1-0 but allowed goals in first-half stoppage time and in the 88th minute. Brandon Allen opened the scoring in the match with his third goal in eight appearances since joining Memphis. He already ranks second on the team in goals, behind Elliot Collier's five.
Memphis and Birmingham met earlier this season on a rainy Saturday afternoon in Downtown Memphis, and the teams finished in a 2-2 draw. Cam Lindley scored in the 40th minute, and Duane Muckette found the back of the net in the 86th minute right after Birmingham tied the game at 1. But what looked like a 2-1 Memphis win turned into a draw when Birmingham scored on a penalty kick two minutes into second-half stoppage time.
Tomorrow's match against Birmingham Legion FC continues a tough stretch on the 901 FC schedule. Including this match, Memphis has played seven-straight matches against teams in the playoff picture at the time Memphis played them (Birmingham, 10th; North Carolina, 5th; Saint Louis, 10th; Pittsburgh, 6th; Ottawa, 8th; New York, 2nd; Nashville, 3rd) and nine-of-11 overall.
After tomorrow, 901 FC remains on the road for a showdown at Tampa Bay Rowdies next Saturday night at 6:30 (CT). Memphis' next match in Downtown Memphis is Saturday, Sept. 7 against Swope Park Rangers.
