ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The top two teams in the Eastern Conference both have this weekend off, but the Red Bulls and Rowdies will remain in first and second places, respectively, despite that.
Nashville can move within a point of the Rowdies, but no closer this weekend.
Here's a look at some of the biggest matches happening in the Eastern Conference this weekend.
Charlotte Independence vs. Nashville SC
Saturday, 7 p.m. | ESPN+
Nashville is the favorite on paper but Charlotte has improved slightly since a summer coaching change. The Independence has already played more matches than anyone in the East though, so it badly needs wins to have a chance at reaching the playoffs.
North Carolina FC vs. Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC
Saturday, 7 p.m. | ESPN+
The Rowdies will have their eyes on North Carolina ahead of next week's visit to Cary, but also on a surging Riverhounds team that has won five matches in a row, including beating the Red Bulls in New Jersey on Wednesday. The last team to get a point against Pittsburgh was the Rowdies on July 13.
Indy Eleven vs. Saint Louis FC
Sunday, 6 p.m. | ESPN+
Indy is within touching distance of the Rowdies, six points behind with three games in hand. Indy hasn't played since August 3, while Saint Louis is squarely on the playoff bubble. STLFC is tied with Birmingham for the last playoff spot but has a game in hand.
