Medchill, Santana Transferred from Tampa to Charleston; Watkins Reinstated from DL

CHARLESTON, SC - The New York Yankees announced Thursday that outfielders Neil Medchill and Francisco Santana have been transferred from High-A Tampa to Charleston. The Yankees also announced that right-handed pitcher Ben Watkins has been reinstated from the DL.

Medchill, an Oxford, Miss. native, hit .178 with five doubles, three home runs and 21 RBI in 51 games with the Tampa Yankees. The former Oklahoma State Cowboy is coming off of a 2009 season that saw him post a .278 average, with 13 doubles, two triples, 14 home runs and 41 RBI, earning New York-Penn League Mid-Season All-Star honors. An 11th round selection of the Yankees in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, Medchill's 14 home runs led the NYPL in 2009.

Santana, a Higuey, Dominican Republic native, posted a .137 average with four doubles, one triple and 8 RBI in 22 games with the Tampa Yankees thus far this season. The 22-year-old prospect hit .224 with six doubles, one triple, one home run and 10 RBI in 2009 in 45 games combined between Staten Island and Trenton, 40 games with Staten Island and five with Trenton.

Watkins, a Johnstown, Pa. native, was placed on the DL on June 3. The former University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown standout has played in 10 games with the RiverDogs thus far this season, giving up 15 hits, six earned runs and three walks, while striking out six batters and compiling a 0-1 record with a 4.44 ERA in a total of 13.1 innings on the mound.
