
Mechanics win season finale in Elmira

Elmira, NY â The Motor City Mechanics played the final game of their inaugural season today and earned their 12th consecutive victory, a 4-1 win over the Elmira Jackals. The Mechanics finish the season one game above .500 (37-36-7 overall) and 18-2-0 under new head coach Danton Cole.
Chris Gignac scored a powerplay goal 6:59 into the first to give the Mechanics a 1-0 lead. Newcomer Tom Welch, a rookie out of Ohio State University, scored two goals in the second period, boosting Motor City's lead to 3-0. Another new face in the Mechanics lineup, Rob Sich, a rookie from the OHA's Tecumseh Chief's, scored his first goal midway through the second frame as Motor City jumped out to a commanding 4-0 advantage. Elmira's Tom Clayton scored late in the second to put the Jackals on the board. There was no scoring in the third period and the Mechanics held on for the 4-1 win.
In goal, Rod Branch made 47 saves for Motor City. Kevin Kurk stopped 31 shots between the pipes for the Jackals.
