
Mechanics triumph over Flags

Motor City Mechanics News Release
PORT HURON, MI-Five Mechanics record multiple point nights and Rod Branch makes 25 saves as the Mechanics defeat the Port Huron Flags 7-2 tonight at McMorran Arena.
Newly acquired Ryan Van Buskirk scored the first of three Mechanics goals in the first period giving them the 1-0 lead. After the Flags scored twice the Mechanics responded with two of their own as Matt Smith and Tom Kotsopoulos propelled the Mechanics to the 3-2 lead.
Four more goals were scored, all of them by the Mechanics, including three in the second period. Peter Szabo, Mel Angelstad and Vlad Serov all lit the lamp. Serov's goal in the second gave him 50 career UHL goals while playing in his 80th UHL game.
David Herring added the last goal late in the third period as Rod Branch made his 37th start in net while earning his 17th win. Five Mechanics had multiple point nights in the win, Kotsopoulos (1g, 2a), Serov (1g, 1a), Szabo (1g, 2a), Van Buskirk (1g, 1a) and Brent Gretzky (2a).
Tomorrow the Mechanics return home to face the Quad City Mallards at 5:00 p.m. Tomorrow is NASCAR night with prizes from Michigan International Speedway given away throughout the game.
