Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- Rookie winger Chaz Johnson continued his current hot streak in a 3-2 win over the Flint Generals in front of 5,027 at the Rockford MetroCentre. Johnson had a goal and two assists on the night, and four goals and four assists during the three game homestand that concluded with tonight's contest. With the win Rockford set the franchise record for longest home unbeaten streak at 11 (10-0-1). Flint got on the board first when forward Chad Cavenaugh blew a slapshot over Rockford goalie Michel Robinson's shoulder at the 11:11 mark of the first period. Despite Rockford outshooting the Generals in the period, Flint took the 1-0 advantage into the first intermission.

The IceHogs came out of the gates quickly in the second period to tie up the match at one at the 3:41 mark on defensman T.J. Reynolds blast from center Preston Mizzi and winger Robin Big Snake. Reynolds scored his first goal with the IceHogs in only his second game with the club since coming down from the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League. Chaz Johnson scored Rockford's second goal of the night, and his first, at 11:41 giving the Hogs a goal advantage at the second break.

It looked like the Hogs were cruising to a victory when UHL All-Star defenseman Corey Hessler scored his eighth goal of the year from Johnson and rookie center Yannick Tifu at the 1:13 mark of the third period to give the home team a 3-1 lead. Flint answered, though, on an unassisted Matt Elich goal at 9:19 to make the Rockford earn the victory. Earn it they did by killing off the final 11 minutes of the game and by killing a late penalty that provided the Generals with great opportunities to even up the match.

The win keeps the Hogs in second place in the overall UHL standings and first in the Western Division. Rockford heads next to Fort Wayne on Sunday for a 4:00 tilt against the Komets.

Next Home Game: Friday, Feb. 10 vs. Quad City Mallards. The Hogs and Mallards hook up at the MetroCentre for the fifth time this season. The IceHogs welcome fan-favorites the Zooperstars to Rockford.
