ROANOKE, VA - The Roanoke Valley Vipers, member of the United Hockey League (UHL), dropped their fifth straight on Saturday night at the Roanoke Civic Center in front of their largest crowd of the season, losing by a final score of 5-3 to the Richmond RiverDogs.

Richmond scored first in the game, as John DiPace would score at the five minute mark of the first period. Jonathan Charette would even the score for the Vipers at 9:08, netting his first of the season off assists from Mike Wiggins and David Beauregard. Dan Vandermeer would gain back the RiverDogs lead at 10:02, and Mike Oliveira added another to it just 22 seconds before the end of the period at the 19:38 mark.

Richmond would make it 4-1 with a Warren Cooper goal at 11:23 of the second before Charette would add his second of the night to cut the score in half. With just under eight minutes remaining in the third period, Shawn Conschafter suffered a leg injury when he left the crease to reach the puck, and was replaced by Trevor Cunning for the remaining 7:35 of the game. Cunning was removed with a minute left in exchange for an extra attacker. Matt Goody gained control of the puck and sent it sailing for an empty net goal at the 19:02 mark. Mike Krelove started a rally with a sweet shot over the shoulder of Mike D'Alessandro at 19:38 with assists from Alex Jerofejevs and Charlie Elezi, but the Vipers did not have enough time to continue as they lost by a final score of 5-3.
