Mechanics take down the Flags

FRASER, MI-Vlad Serov and the Motor City Mechanics explode for six goals including three in the third period to knock off the Port Huron Flags 6-3 in front of 2,025 fans at the Great Lakes Sports City Arena.

Adam Edinger started the scoring at 4:57 of the first period as the Mechanics scored three goals in the first period. Vlad Serov and Matt Smith tallied the other Mechanics goals in the first.

In the third period the Mechanics blew the game open with two goals within a span of 45 seconds. Brent Gretzky buried a rebound chance and Greg Bullock fired a wrist shot to beat Flags goaltender, Scott Hay. Vlad Serov then scored his second of the game and put the game out of reach for the Flags.

Rod Branch made his 49th start in net and won his 25th game of the season by making 30 saves. Adam Edinger is only ONE goal away from making Mechanics history as he tied Joe Burton for the most goals in a season (36).

Darren McCarty, former Detroit Red Wing and current Calgary Flame was on hand to drop the first puck for the Mechanics. McCarty was on hand wearing a #25 Mechanics road jersey which was auctioned off for his McCarty Cancer Foundation.

The "Name that Line" contest is underway as many entries have already been submitted. Fans have until midnight on February 28th to submit their entries to name the Edinger, Szabo, Gretzky line. The winning name will be revealed on March 3rd during the first intermission.
