Danbury Lead Trashed by Vipers in the Third Period

Roanoke Valley Vipers News Release
ROANOKE, VA - The Roanoke Valley Vipers, member of the United Hockey League, (UHL), came from behind a two-goal deficit to force a shootout and steal the win from the Danbury Trashers in front of a large and lively crowd at the Roanoke Civic Center Saturday night, winning by a final score of 6-5.
David Beauregard opened up scoring for the Vipers at 10:35 of the first period off an assist from Erick Lajoie to give the Vipers a 1-0 lead. Mike Wiggins added to his now three-game point-scoring streak at 14:39 off assists from Beauregard and Mark Scott to give the Vipers a 2-0 advantage.
The Trashers responded with four straight goals, three coming in the second period, and a fourth at the start of the third period. The Vipers were not content allowing Danbury to maintain the lead, and Erick Lajoie started a Vipers rally, scoring two straight goals at 10:37 and 12:42 to tie the game and give the Vipers new life. New Viper Matt Elich scored just 30 seconds later to give the Vipers back the lead. Mike Omicioli ruined the Vipers lead yet again with his second goal of the night just 10 seconds after Elich's goal. Both teams hung on as a shootout became eminent.
Three rounds of shooters would come up unsuccessful as both Jayme Platt and Trevor Cunning made some excellent saves and got lucky with some shots off the posts, but it would be 2006 UHL All Star MVP Beauregard who would net a shot over the shoulder of Platt to give the Vipers the advantage. Cunning made a stellar grab on Jean-Michel Daoust's next shot as the Vipers poured off the bench to gather around their netminder, who made 36 saves in regulation and was perfect in the shootout.
The Vipers will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at 5:05p.m. at the Roanoke Civic Center as they host the Adirondack Frostbite. Don't forget to bring your skates with you to the game and participate in the post-game "Skate with the Players". Call the Vipers office today at (540) 345-PUCK (7825) to get your tickets!
