Missouri River Otters News Release

River Otters Most Recent Game: Friday, February 17: Missouri 3, Quad City 2 Lonnie Loach scored two goals as the Missouri River Otters powered past the Port Huron Flags 3-2 at McMorran Arena.

The lone goal in the first period came less than a minute in as Scott Horvath took a perfect feed from Noah Whyte and flipped a shot top-shelf to put the Flags up 1-0. Neither team scored in the second period and through two periods the teams were a combined 0-for-13 on the power play, including four two-man advantages. The River Otters came out like gangbusters in the third period, getting three power play goals in the first seven minutes to take a 3-1 lead. The first came on a rocket from the slot by Loach, the second on a rebound shot by Mark Odut, and the third on another howitzer by Loach. Trevor Edwards added a late goal for the Flags, but it was too little too late as the River Otters won 3-2. Kevin Reiter earned the win while Scott Hay recorded the loss.

Mallards Most Recent Game: Friday, February 17: Quad City 2, Fort Wayne 1 Jason Tapp made 21 saves as the Quad City Mallards defeated the Fort Wayne Komets 2-1 at the Allen County Coliseum. Neither team scored through two periods, and it was the Mallards breaking the scoreless tie two minutes into the final period on a goal by Sam Nasreddine. Chad Woollard scored four minutes later to give his squad a 2-0 advantage. Brent Rumble got a late goal for the Komets but it wasn't enough as the Mallards left town with the 2-1 win.

Most Recent Meeting: Saturday, January 14: Quad City 3, Missouri 2 A late rally fell short as the Missouri River Otters fell to the Quad City Mallards 3-2 at the MARK of the Quad Cities.

The lone goal in the first period came on a Mallards power play when Chad Woollard ripped home a deflected slap shot from just inside the River Otters blue line. Quad City extended their lead to 3-0 in the second period. The first goal came when Anthony Blumer skated in on a shorthanded breakaway and beat Brenden Cuthbert with a nifty move, while the second came on a Patrick Nadeau power play goal. The Otters mounted a third period comeback with goals from Lars Pettersen and Joe Seroski, but they weren't able to score the equalizer. Jason Tapp made 25 saves for the victory while Cuthbert made 40 saves in defeat.

Pettersen and Duhart Excel Versus Mallards: The River Otters two leading scorers this season against Quad City are Lars Pettersen, who has three goals and four assists in six games against the Mallards, and Jim Duhart, who has registered two goals and five assists in a mere four games against the Mallards.

No Doubting Nadeau: If the River Otters are to emerge victorious versus the Mallards they will have to contain Patrick Nadeau. The Quad City center has sniped five goals in six games against Missouri this season.

Otters Next Game: The River Otters host the Fort Wayne Komets Sunday afternoon at the Family Arena. The puck drops at 1:00 CST, and all the action can be heard on KSLQ 104.5 FM and the B2 Networks, located at www.riverotters.com.
