ROANOKE, VA--Erick Lajoie and Matt Elich combined to score three goals in a 2:35 span as the Vipers erased a 4-2 Danbury lead in the third period, while Mike Omicioli's second goal of the night tied the score at 5-5 at the 13:22 mark. However, it wasn't enough as the Roanoke Valley Vipers topped Danbury in a shootout 6-5 on Saturday night at the Roanoke Civic Center.

David Beauregard and Mike Wiggins each scored first period goals to give the Vipers a 2-0 lead by the end of the first period.

Danbury fired back three consecutive goals in the second period as J.M. Daoust, Danny Stewart and Alex Goupil each netted one apiece to give the Trashers a 3-2 lead heading into the final period.

Mike Omicioli scored the first of two goals at the 2:20 mark, but the Vipers bounced back starting at 10:37 as Lajoie slipped a shot past Jayme Platt to cut Danbury's lead to 4-3. Lajoie scored again at the 12:42 mark as his slapshot beat Platt to tie the score. Elich scored 30 seconds later as he beat Platt in a 2-on-1 to give Roanoke a brief 5-4 lead.

Ten seconds after Elich scored, Mike Omicioli scored his second of the night to deadlock the game at 5-5.

Danbury failed to score in the shootout for the third time in four tries, while David Beauregard scored the only goal for Roanoke. Platt stopped 28 of 33 in regulation while Trevor Cunning finished with 36 saves over 41 shots. Danbury falls to 31-13-10 as they now lead Adirondack by 10 points in the UHL East Division.

Danbury returns home to host Elmira on Sunday at 7pm. Tickets are available at DanburyTrashers.com or in person at the Danbury Ice Arena.
