Mechanics Snap Four Game Losing Streak

ROCKFORD, IL- The Motor City Mechanics had three players with multiple point games tonight as they snapped a four game losing streak defeating the Rockford IceHogs 5-4 in a shootout at the Rockford MetroCentre in Rockford, Illinois.

In the first period of action the Mechanics were the team to jump ahead first. At 13:54 of the period, Robin Big Snake was whistled for a double minor. The Mechanics took advantage when a clearing attempt by the IceHogs was kept in and Mike Ramsay (4) pounced on the loose puck, firing a backhanded shot to the top corner. Kevin Hansen (4) tallied the lone assist on the power play goal at 17:18.

The IceHogs would take the lead after scoring two goals within the first three minutes of the second period. The Mechanics would respond 51 seconds after the IceHogs second goal when Konstantin Kalmikov (4) tied the game at two, with assists from Ramsay (5) and Chris Bogas (1). After the IceHogs took the lead again the Mechanics responded when Peter Szabo (2) fired a shot from the right circle beating IceHogs goaltender, Ron Vogel. Brent Gretzky (8) and Kris Vernarsky (2) tallied the assists.

In the third period the IceHogs took the lead with five minutes left, however, the Mechanics scored on the power play with 32 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game at four thus leading into a shootout. Adam Edinger (4) scored the tying goal with Gretzky (9) and Szabo (6) earning the assists.

In the shootout goaltender Rod Branch stoned all four attempts while Adam Edinger and Matt Smith both scored for the Mechanics winning the shootout 2-0. Branch finished the game with 25 saves earning his 6th win of the young season.

The Mechanics return home tomorrow night November 19th when the Quad City Mallards come to town. Saturday is also a souvenir pennant giveaway night presented by Christian Financial Credit Union, WYCD 99.5 and Comcast.
