Rockford, Ill.- A late third period goal by the Motor City Mechanics Adam Edinger forced a shootout in which the Rockford IceHogs were shutout and fell 5-4 at the Rockford MetroCentre in front of 3,317 Friday night. Motor City goalie Rod Branch blanked four Hogs shooters to help the Mechanics to their first ever win in Rockford.

Motor City jumped out to the 1-0 lead in the first when winger Mike Ramsey flipped a puck over Hogs goalie Ronnie Vogel at 17:18 of the first period on the power play. That set up a back-and-forth second frame that featured five-goals between the teams.

The Hogs started the scoring 1:51 into the middle period when winger Jason Ralph fired in his fourth marker of the year to tie the contest. The Hogs took the lead at 3:10 with a Jason Notermann goal, but Motor City bounced back at 4:01 when Konstantin Kalmikov beat Vogel to tie the score at 2-2.

Rockford grabbed the lead back on the power play when rookie center Steve Yetman poked home his fourth tally of the campaign at 7:31. Once again, the Mechanics came back to tie the contest when winger Peter Szabo shelved his second goal of the season at 8:44.

In the third period, the Hogs out-shot Motor City 17-5, but managed only one-goal. Notermann notched his second goal of the night at 14:58 on the power play to give Rockford the lead back, 4-3. After a late Rockford penalty put Motor City on the power play, the Mechanics pulled Branch and Edinger netted the equalizer at 19:28.

Edinger and Mark Smith beat Vogel, while Branch held Rockford off the scoreboard in the shootout. Each team had 29 shots on goal in regulation and both goalies made 25 saves.

Next Home Game: Saturday, November 19 vs. Fort Wayne Komets. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 kids 14-and under will receive a full-size youth hockey stick from MT and Sons, WXRX-FM 104.9 and FOX39. Call (815) 968-5222 for tickets.
