Roanoke Valley Vipers News Release

KALAMAZOO, MI - David Beauregard and Petr Jelinek scored goals for the Vipers, but Roanoke could not keep up with the Wings who were flying high, and took a 4-2 loss to host Kalamazoo on Friday night.

The Wings got on the board early with a power play goal at the 6:16 mark of the first period from Joe Seroski. The Vipers showed signs of life, however, getting a goal from rookie forward Petr Jelinek at 11:41 to knot the score at one apiece. Beauregard and Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week Alex Jerofejevs had assists on the power play goal.

Beauregard gave the Vipers a 2-1 advantage at 4:46 of the second period with an unassisted power play goal. The Wings kept the pressure on, and evened the score once again with just over three minutes left to play in the period.

In an odd twist, the Vipers, who came into the night having scored over twice as many goals as they've given up to opponents in third period play, were silent in Kalamazoo throughout the final period. Roanoke Valley netminder Jamie Hodson surrendered two goals to the K-Wings at the 8:35 and 14:59 marks, which the Vipers usually-deadly offense was unable to answer.

Five of the six goals put on the scoreboard by both teams Friday night came on the power play, each team getting seven chances, as the Wings converted on three and the Vipers on two. Roanoke's record drops back to the .500 mark at 5-5-1, but the Vipers don't lose their sting as they remain in second place with 11 points in the Eastern Division, just one point ahead of the Danbury Trashers, who earned their tenth point Friday night in a shootout loss to the Elmira Jackals. Kalamazoo's record improves to 8-2-0 as the Wings continue to look to gain ground on the Central Division-leading Muskegon Fury, who remain undefeated at 9-0-0.

The Vipers head across Michigan for a Saturday night matchup against the new tennants in their former city, the Port Huron Flags. The Flags (5-6-1, 11 points) currently sit tied at third place in the Central Division with the Motor City Mechanics. The puck drops at 7:30p.m. - be sure to tune into 3WR/Fox Sports Radio beginning at 7:15p.m. as Matt Rosen calls the game live. 3WR is 910AM in Roanoke, 990AM in the New River Valley, and can be accessed via the internet by clicking on the Fox Sports Radio/Listen Live link on the Vipers website at www.valleyvipershockey.com.
