
Mechanics Sign NHLers; Go 2-2 on Week

Fraser, MI â The Motor City Mechanics picked up two NHL defenseman this week and scored two wins along the way.
Wednesday February 2nd @ Flint 5-1 Loss: Newly acquired NHL defenseman Derian Hatcher scored a powerplay goal in his UHL debut as the Mechanics suffered a 5-1 loss. Kyle Kos and Dan Price assisted on Hatcher's goal.
Friday February 4th vs. Rockford 4-3 Shootout WIN: In front of a sellout crowd, Chris Chelios scored his first UHL goal as the Mechanics jumped out to a 3-0 lead against the IceHogs. Rick Smith and Ryan Baker also scored for Motor City. Rockford scored three unanswered goals through the second and third periods to knot the score at three and send the game into a shootout. Joe Burton and Dan Price each scored in the shootout to give the Mechanics the 4-3 win.
Saturday February 5th vs. Kalamazoo 4-1 Loss: The Mechanics took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period when Joe Burton scored on a shorthanded breakaway. The K-Wings tied the game at one in the second period and dominated from that point on, scoring three more goals, including one on the powerplay and an empty-netter.
Sunday February 6th vs. Quad City 3-1 WIN: Rookie David Bonk contributed three assists in the Mechanics 3-1 win over Quad City on Super Bowl Sunday. Matt Hunter and Derian Hatcher also scored for Motor City and Burton added two assists on the night. New head coach Steve Shannon improved his record to 2-2.
UP NEXT: The Mechanics travel to Port Huron on Friday February 11th before playing two at home. Saturday, February 12th, the Muskegon Fury visit The Garage and on Sunday, February 13th, Motor City hosts the Beacons. The Mechanics are 1-3-1 against Port Huron this season, while they have yet to solve the Fury.
Valentine's Weekend: The Mechanics will host a special Valentine's Day weekend of games sponsored by MB Jewelry Design. MB Jewelry Design will give away a $1,500 diamond pendant on Saturday night. And many other Valentine prizes will be awarded throughout the weekend.
Please Note: Please note that the post-game summary released on Sunday February 6th states that Hatcher scored his first UHL goal. The correction should show that Hatcher scored his second UHL goal, his first HOME goal as a Mechanic.
