Mechanics Fall to Komets

Fraser, MI – The Motor City Mechanics suffered their second consecutive home loss. A 7-1 defeat at the hands of the Fort Wayne Komets.

The Komets dominated the first period, taking a commanding 5-0 lead in the first 15 minutes. David Hukalo opened the scoring at the 3:45 mark, followed just 24 seconds later on a goal by P.C. Drouin. Three more goals followed, all within a 1:14 span.

Fort Wayne controlled the tempo of the second period as well. Danny Stewart notched his second goal of the night to give the Komets a 6-0 lead. Sean Venedam tallied his second of the night to put Fort Wayne ahead 7-0 early in the third period. The Mechanics cracked Komets netminder Kevin St. Pierre at the 11:20 mark of the third, when defenseman Tim Laurila took a feed from Rick Smith for the goal.

The Mechanics will be at home again tomorrow night when they host the Rockford IceHogs. Tomorrow's game will feature a Teddy Bear Toss and a Post-Game Jersey Auction, both benefiting Children's Hospital. Detroit favorite Karen Newman will be at The Garage to perform the National Anthem. Tomorrow's game will be broadcast on 1310 AM WXDX beginning at 7:15 pm.
