TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The fifth of 17 meetings and the second of eight at home. Richmond is 2-2 vs. the Trashers, 1-0 at the Coliseum. David Hymovitz and Francis Belanger have five points vs. Trashers. Brad Wingfield has four points vs. the âDogs. Clubs have combined for four shorthanded goals in the series. Each club has only one power play goal in the season series. The âDogs are fourth in the East, three points back of Elmira. Danbury leads the East by four over Adirondack.
LAST ACTION: Richmond beat Elmira here Sunday 4-1. The âDogs exploded for four third period goals, two 14 seconds apart. Kyle Sheen scored the game-winner. The Trashers dumped Kalamazoo Doug Christiansen scored two goals. The Trashers out-shot the Wings by 11. The clubs combined for 164 PIM.
'DOG BITES: The 'Dogs snapped their first three game loosing streak of the season with the win over Elmira Sunday. Richmond held the Jackals to a season low 18 shots on goal. The 'Dogs were six for six on the penalty kill Sunday after allowing five power play goals Saturday. Kyle Sheen and Ryan Prentice have points in three straight games. Sheen's goal Saturday in Elmira was his first as a pro. The 'Dogs are 3-4 in a stretch of nine straight games vs. the Eastern Division. Richmond still has at least two games in hand on the rest of the East. David Hymovitz five game scoring streak ended Wednesday. Richmond out-shot the Jackals by nine Sunday. The 'Dogs had been out-shot in six straight games. The nine goals against Saturday in Elmira is a club record. The 'Dogs are 0 for their last 13 on the power play. The 'Dogs have held opponents to two or fewer goals in their last four wins. They have allowed 30 goals in their last four losses. After going 6-0-1 in the first seven games in which the âDogs scored first, Richmond has lost two straight when scoring the first goal. The âDogs waived the rights to Paul Johnson and placed Jason Bone on team suspension. Bone is joining Winston-Salem of the SPHL. Darren Wetherill is expected to come out of retirement and join the lineup tonight.
