With eight strikeouts in his final regular season start, Kyle McGowin now leads the Texas League with 125 K's this year.

North Little Rock, AR - Kyle McGowin tossed six shutout innings on Sunday afternoon en route to a 3-1 Arkansas Travelers victory over the Northwest Arkansas Naturals at Dickey-Stephens Park.

McGowin (W, 9-9) surrendered just two singles with no walks and eight strikeouts. The righty leads the Texas League with 125 strikeouts, seven more than LHP Chad Bell of Frisco who starts Monday.

RHP Eduard Santos worked two scoreless frames after McGowin to pick up his league-leading 12th hold and LHP Greg Mahle surrendered a run in the ninth but earned his 12th save for the Travs and 23rd overall.

Arkansas scored a run in the first, one in the fifth and one in the seventh a day after Northwest Arkansas did the same.

RF Cal Towey, who hadn't played in nine days, blasted a home run in the fifth to put the Travs up 2-0.

LF Blake Gailen finished 2-for-3 with a walk and a two-out RBI in the first.

2B Sherman Johnson reached base three times with a single and two walks.

Arkansas finished 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and is now 7-for-last-75 in that situation.

With the win, the Travs temporarily move one-half game ahead of the Springfield Cardinals in the Texas League North second half standings. Springfield plays at 6:10 p.m. on Sunday and owns the tie breaker if the two teams finish the half with the same record. Monday marks the regular season finale, with first pitch between Arkansas and Northwest Arkansas scheduled for 1:10 p.m. at Dickey-Stephens Park.
