San Antonio Missions News Release
Backed by a five-run fifth inning outburst, Corpus Christi cruised to a 9-2 win over San Antonio Sunday night in front of 5,266 at Wolff Stadium.
The Hooks struck first Sunday, plating a pair off starter Bryan Rodriguez in the third on a Teoscar Hernandez run-producing groundout and a Colin Moran double to left.
Two innings later, Corpus Christi knocked Rodriguez (6-14) out of the game when it erupted for five runs on four hits, capped by Jio Mier's two-RBI single to center.
The 7-0 lead was more than plenty for winning starter Kyle Westwood, who allowed just two runs on six hits and one walk, while striking out four over seven strong innings. Westwood's only mistake came in the bottom of the fifth, when Taylor Lindsey spoiled the shutout bid with a two-run homer to right.
The Hooks capped scoring in the top of the ninth when Conrad Gregor drilled a two-run homer to right off Cody Hebner.
Gonzalo Sanudo followed Westwood (11-7) with two scoreless frames to cap the Corpus Christi victory.
San Antonio (29-40, 60-79) wraps up its 2015 season Monday at 2:05 PM with the series finale against Corpus Christi (40-29, 88-51). Stephen Kohlscheen (5-2, 2.74) will get the ball for the Missions, while the Hooks counter with fellow righty Francis Martes (1-0, 5.06).
